The death of George Floyd on May 25 re-ignited Black Lives Matter protests across the United States. As support for the BLM movement spread around the globe in the days following the murder, protesters increasingly took aim at their local brands of racism and discrimination. Black Lives Matter has thus become a global rallying cry and a reminder that, even in the twenty-first century, this message still needs to be repeated around the world.

One of the many things that Black Lives Matter speaks to is the fact that there is still much to learn and understand for privileged cultural groups with regard to systemic inequities. Learning and understanding are prerequisites for affecting genuine change.

Consequently, it is our distinct pleasure to welcome not one but two distinguished scholars—Dr. Tracey Salisbury (California State University, Bakersfield) and Prof. Sabine Broeck (University of Bremen) who will engage in a transatlantic dialog titled "Systemic Racism and #BlackLivesMatter".

We will convene virtually on Tuesday, June 30 at 6.30 pm (CEST).

Our virtual teach-in and conversation will take place in a secure, virtual, real-time, audio-video environment powered by GoToMeeting. The event will also be live-streamed via the Facebook page of the Austro-American Society for Styria.*

In order to receive your GoToMeeting session key, we kindly ask you to RSVP for the event by Monday, June 29 at 1 pm (CEST). Please register with Dr. Stefan Rabitsch at stefan.rabitsch@uni-graz.at. Participants who are registered will receive their GoToMeeting credentials via email in the morning of June 30.

We recommend that participants install the free GoToMeeting app (no subscription required) for a better, interactive experience. Download GoToMeeting here: https://www.gotomeeting.com/en-gb/features/mac-windows-linux
