This lecture presents findings of a study of the Macedonian communities in Vienna, with a special attention to their organizations and initiatives. Combining ethnographic field research with statistical and demographic analysis, it provides a more nuanced understanding of the agency, functioning and networking of these organizations. As is the case with many South Slavic and former Yugoslav organizations in Austria, these organizations and initiatives are most often formed along ethnic, cultural, religious, gender, or professional lines.
